Ohio Volleyball History Predictions

10/23/05 - Versailles won their 23rd match of the season Saturday, en route to their sixth straight sectional championship. The Tigers shook off Twin Valley South (21-3) 25-15, 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-5.  South's passing was superb, as was sophomore Debbie Brubaker's setting, and hitters Kate McCoy, Kate Ervin, Kate McCollum and Maggie McCollum gave the Versailles fits. But Tiger hitters Justine Raterman and Melissa Heft were too much for the Panthers in the tiebreaker. With the fourth game knotted at 22-22, Versailles buckled down and scored 18 of the last 24 points. The Tigers will shoot for their sixth straight District Championship on Saturday at Vandalia-Butler.

Anna had an easier time against Brookville. The Rockets, who start four sophomores and two freshmen, won in three, led by hitters Kelli Barhorst and Rachel Billing, and 5'8" frosh setter Kelsie Zumberger. Brookville was led by Joy Maxel, Nicole Snedeker and Nikki Richardson.

It was a good day for Firebirds. Lakota West surprised Walnut Hills 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22. Meagen Dooley led the Firebirds with 25 kills. Walnut Hills had beaten West in five early in the season.

Meanwhile, the Kettering Fairmont Firebirds upended Centerville in five games for the second time this season, this time by a 12-25, 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 15-6 count. The Elks ousted Fairmont last year.

McNicholas handed Clermont Northeastern its only loss of the season 15-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23. Roger Bacon advanced over Talawanda. Mount Notre Dame beat Lakota East in four.

Hamilton Badin is now 11-14 after topping top seeded Reading 25-17, 16-25, 25-15, 14-25, 16-14. Badin's record is deceiving, and they had beaten Reading before. The Rams' next opponent is 9th ranked Greeneview in the District final.

Dayton Carroll beat Springfield Shawnee, led by Gretchen Vandersluijs with 15 kills, 10 digs and five aces.

Also winning yesterday were Fenwick, Bellbrook, Cincinnati St. Ursula, Seton, Washington Court House and Convoy Crestview.
