10/29/08 - Marysville rallied from an 0-2 deficit to stun seventh ranked Bishop Watterson 20-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-12 in a Central Division District final last Saturday, thereby ending Watterson's six year run as district champions. It was the Monarchs' first district title ever. Leading Marysville were Hannah McShea with 35 digs and 23 kills, and Meghan Gugel with 51 assists.

Ironically, Marysville averted a similar comeback by Westerville Central in the semifinal 25-16, 25-21, 13-25, 18-25, 15-13.

Elsewhere in Central, Olentangy dropped Pickerington North from the ranks of the unbeaten with a four set win and advanced to a regional matchup with Dublin Coffman.

Cincinnati McAuley continued its amazing post-season run by beating Centerville for a district crown. The 9-16 Mohawks, who upended Cincinnati St. Ursula in five the week before, will now face Mother of Mercy which ousted Lebanon.

Another team that's been coming on strong is 15-11 Lakota West. The Firebirds stopped Seton in four and advanced to a date with Mt. Notre Dame.

Toledo St. Ursula avenged two losses to Notre Dame Academy with a four game win. The youthful Arrows will travel to the Norwalk regional to face undefeated Olmsted Falls in a rematch of their Best of Ohio semifinal.

In the northeast, Cloverleaf downed Wooster to win its first district title and will now meet perennial power Mentor. Meanwhile, a resurgent Stow-Monroe Falls will take on newcomer Brecksville-Broadview Hts in the lower bracket.

In Division II, 26-0 Tipp City Tippecanoe and 17-8 Archbishop Alter are headed for a showdown tonight at Wilmington. Tippecanoe nipped Alter 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-10 in the first match of the season, and their records are misleading. Alter was also nipped in five by Mother of Mercy and Chaminade-Julienne (twice), and also lost to Ursuline, McNicholas and some Indiana powers. Notably, Tippecanoe defeated McNicholas in four in their district final.

Elsewhere, Walsh Jesuit ousted second ranked Kenston 25-12, 25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 15-12.

Gilmour Academy advanced to the regionals with a hard fought 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 win over a determined Berkshire. It was the third win this year over Berkshire for the Lancers, who beat Chagrin Falls in four in the district semifinal on Monday.

Elsewhere, it's been a tournament of reversals for some teams.

Unranked Cincinnati McAuley avenged two losses to twelfth rated Cincinnati St. Ursula with a 29-27, 20-25, 16-25, 25-17 15-12 sectional win last Saturday. The Mohawks will play unranked Centerville, which advanced in straight sets over tenth ranked Chaminade-Julienne, in the district final.

Cincinnati Seton, which finished 0-10 in the GGCL, toppled 17th rated Lakota East, and advanced to a district final with Lakota West.
