Region 9 – Barberton

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary is a slight favorite over #1 seed Smithville in the Smithville district. They would meet in the District final. Smithville has beaten #4 seed Norwayne twice. Third seeded Akron Manchester lost to Dalton. Both Manchester and Smithville lost to Kidron Central, but Smithville’s match was closer.

In the Oberlin District, Wellington is also a slight favorite, over #1 seed Lutheran West. They would meet in the final. Wellington has to get past Regina, who had a three game loss to Lake Catholic early in the season. Wellington has beaten Oberlin convincingly, a team with whom Lutheran West struggled. Wellington has also beaten #4 seed Avon.

In the Salem District Mineral Ridge appears to be stronger than #1 seeded Columbiana Crestview and #2 seeded Hanoverton United. Mineral Ridge has already beaten Crestview, while Crestview has beaten United twice, the second time by the score of. Not much is known about Akron Springfield. Mineral Ridge gets the nod in this district.

Girard is the clear favorite at Newton Falls. They beat Boardman early in the season. One of their losses is to Hubbard.

Possible Regional Pairings:

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary vs. Wellington

Mineral Ridge vs. Girard

Region 10 – Ontario

The Bowling Green District has three ranked teams, and Genoa is the highest. Liberty-Benton should meet Lima Central Catholic in one semifinal. However Benton must get past Bluffton, who beat Convoy Crestview early in the season, while Columbus Grove, who recently beat Kalida, could give Central trouble. Genoa will need to get past Northwood and Lakota to get to the final.

The Willard District could be a tough one. Huron should meet Margaretta in one semi-final with Wynford playing Mohawk in the other. Huron has beaten Margaretta three times this year. However, one of those was in three. Margaretta’s other losses were in three to undefeated Midview, and to Clyde. When Margaretta’s defense is clicking they can beat anyone in Div. III. Mohawk recently beat Wynford, who was missing their setter and a starting hitter for a college visit. Huron is a slight favorite over Wynford in the final.

The Napoleon District will be a struggle with Archbold against Evergreen and Convoy Crestview against Coldwater.  Coldwater has several losses to teams like Old Fort, Marion Local, Northwood, St. Henry, Minster and Versailles. Archbold has beaten Kidron Central Christian, and lost to Holland Springfield, Toledo Central, Perrysburg and Kalida. Convoy beat Kalida, but has lost to Celina, Sidney Lehman and Bluffton. Evergreen has the best record, but has had the easiest schedule. Convoy gets a slight nod here, but any one of those four could win.

Central District will provide the final entrant to the regional. This should be Fredericktown. The Freddies and Jonathan Alder have split in the last two years in thrilling district finals. However, they are in different districts this year, and if they meet this time around it will be in the State Final.  Fredericktown has lost twice to Centerburg, and almost beat Ben Logan in the semifinal of Elgin’s tourney. Pleasant also gave Ben Logan a tussle in the title match, though not as close. Pleasant’s other loss is to Fairbanks. The Freddies should win a close one over Pleasant in the District final. West Jefferson, Heath, River Valley and Sparta Highland are possible spoilers.

Possible Regional Pairings:

Genoa vs. Huron

Convoy Crestview vs. Fredericktown

Region 11 – Byesville Meadowbrook

Westfall is favored to win the Wellston (Waverly 2) District. Their only losses are to Frankfort Adena. In the first match they scored just three points. In the rematch they scored 37 points, losing the third game 14-16. Westfall’s first Sectional match is against Minford who just handed Beaver Eastern their only loss of the regular season. If Minford upends Westfall, they could win this district.

Tuscarawas Valley is a strong favorite in the Byesville 2 District. Their only loss is to West Holmes and they have beaten Claymont (20-1), Akron Manchester and Berlin Hiland.

Frankfort Adena is also a strong favorite in the Wellston (Waverly 1) District. In addition to beating Westfall twice, they have beaten Shekinah Christian and Grove City. Their only loss was in three to Central District Div. I power Westland.

In the Byesville 1 District, Shenandoah gets the nod, based on their record. They have beaten eighth seeded St. Clairsville and fifth seeded Caldwell, both in two games.

Possible Regional Pairings:

Williamsport Westfall vs. Tuscarawas Valley

Frankfort Adena vs. Shenandoah

Region 12 – Wilmington

Five of the eight seeded teams in Central District opted to stay out of Jonathan Alder’s bracket, even though that meant they would be in a region loaded with ranked teams, including Huron. And with good reason, as the Pioneers have beaten Centerburg, Big Walnut, Elgin and won Pickerington’s tournament. Alder should win the district over either Elgin or Northridge in the final. Madison Plains or Fairbanks could be a spoiler.

Senior laden and undefeated, North College Hill should win the Dayton #2 District for the right to play Alder in the regional. Should College Hill fall, then Williamsburg looks like the best bet.

Versailles and Sidney Lehman are big favorites to win the Dayton #1 and #3 brackets respectively. Both of these teams have several losses to strong teams. Three of Versailles’ losses are to Marion Local (twice) and St. Henry, and they have beaten Minster, Coldwater and Fisher Catholic.

Lehman has also lost to Marion Local twice and St. Henry. Their other losses are to Kettering Alter, Vandalia-Butler and Chaminade-Julienne. They have beaten Lakota East, Oak Hills and Convoy Crestview, Celina and Jackson Center, and they clobbered Reading. Lehman will pose a serious threat to Alder should both teams get to the regional final.

Possible Regional Pairings:

Jonathan Alder vs. North College Hill

Versailles vs. Sidney Lehman

Possible State Final Four

Girard (Region 9)

Huron (Region 10)

Tuscarawas Valley (Region 11)

Jonathan Alder (Region 12)
