Girls 2003 Season Preview

USA Youth National finishes fourth in world

The USA Youth National Team finished fourth in the world in the 2003 FIVB Girls' Youth Volleyball Championship held in Pila, Poland.

Five of the twelve players on the team were from Ohio. Toledo St' Ursula's Sarah Florian is the team's floor captain. Other players from Ohio are: Bryn Kehoe, Cincinnati St. Ursula; Nicole Britenriker, Mason; Danielle Meyer, Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame; and, Nicole Fawcett, Benjamin Logan.

Setter Angie McGinnis from Fraser, Michigan also made the team.

Fawcett and Britenriker were the second and third leading scorers for USA. Kehoe did an outstanding job as the the libero.

Italy defeated USA in the semifinal, and Brazil took the consolation match for third. China defeated Italy in the championship match.

Team USA reached the semifinals with a thrilling 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 20-25, 18-16 quarterfinal win over Russia

Team USA beat Venezuela to reach the quarterfinal 25-12, 25-21, 25-18. They have also beaten Belarus 25-22, 25-22, 25-10 and the Czech Republic 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-11.
