2005 Highlights

10/11/05 - McAuley played with a real passion tonight and beat St. Ursula in 3 straight games. All facets of McAuley's game were top-notch tonight especially the blocking and defense. Playing tough at the net tonight were juniors Kristen White and Allison Bartisch along with sophomore Rachel Krabacher. The aggressive defense and strong serve-receive play by senior libero Kristen Meister and senior defensive specialists Jamie Cooper and Kristen Ruffing helped McAuley to beat St. Ursula for the first time this year in an action-packed GGCL match. Next up for McAuley is Ohio's #3 ranked Div I team in Mt. Notre dame and then the Mohawks close out the regular season Saturday against the nation's #3 team (as ranked by prepvolleyball.com) Roger Bacon.

10/04/05 - Focus and teamwork were the key elements for McAuley as they extended their win streak to nine matches in a row, coming back from a two game deficit to defeat Mother of Mercy 25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11. With what is one of the toughest schedules in the country for their last four matches, McAuley faces Seton, St. Ursula, Mt. Notre Dame and, finally, Roger Bacon who is ranked #3 in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.

09/30/05 - McAuley finally prevailed and earned its first win in the 2005 GGCL league play with a victory over Ursuline Academy in five games. McAuley won game one handily with a score of 25-18, but the Lions scrapped out a hard fought victory in game two 25-23. McAuley rebounded in game three only to be nipped again in game four 27-25. The tiebreaker was exciting, but McAuley's offense led by White, Bartish and Krabacher was too much as the Mohawks took it 15-10. Ursuline's defense was magnificent as was McAuley's back court of Meister, Cooper and Ruffing. McAuley is on a bit of a roll with its win streak now at six games.

09/09/05 - McAuley lost to Ursuline Academy in four games in a battle of GGCL teams. Game 1 went to McAuley due primarily to outstanding blocking by McAuley's front line, led by senior Ashley Criswell. Ursuline recovered quickly in Game 2 and won in four. Key to the Lions' success was their unbelievable defense, anchored by junior libero Abby O'Connor.

09/03/05 - McAuley defeated a very solid McNicholas in a battle of GGCL teams. Game one went to McAuley 25-19, but McNicholas rebounded with a 26-24 victory in Game two. McAuley rallied from 15-20 to win game three 25-22. With the Mohawks up 18-8 in game four, McNicholas went on a rally of their own and closed to 19-15, but McAuley got rolling and won 25-17. Standouts for McNicholas included DS Mallory Phillips, OH Sara Staubach and MH Katey Schroeder. For McAuley, DS Kristen Meister and outside hitters Alison Bartish and Kristen White had strong performances.
