Week 1 Highlights

Week of Aug. 30 - Cincinnati St. Ursula defeated host Toledo St. Ursula 15-9, 15-8 to win an Invitational loaded with top teams. The Bulldogs, ranked number one in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com, also beat St. Henry and Holland Springfield by decisive margins. St. Henry captured third place by beating Elyria and Mansfield Madison.

Old Fort won the St. Marys Invitational, defeating both the host and Ft. Recovery. Marion Local won the Sidney Lehman Tournament by topping the Cavaliers in the final 15-6, 15-9. Lehman had beaten the Flyers earlier in the week 15-12, 15-10.

Marion Local will host St. Henry on Thursday September 4.

Amherst Steele won the Norwalk Volleyball Invite, beating the host Ladies in Blue in the championship match. Sandusky finished third.

Bowling Green won the Bulldog Invitational, beating host Celina 15-12, 15-12 in the finale. Bobcat hitter Elizabeth Simon, who had 16 digs in a three game win over Toledo Notre Dame was voted MVP.

Chaminade-Julienne defeated Lakota East 15-13, 13-15, 15-1 and Bishop Hartley to win their tri-match. 

In other tri-matches, Brandie Molnar recorded 32 kills and 4 aces as Springboro beat Northmont and Oakwood. Mason improved to 5-0 with wins over Reading and Colerain. And Hamilton Badin defeated Turpin and Reading.

West Holmes won their tri-match over Berlin Hiland and Division III power Tuscarawas Valley. Tusky Valley beat Hiland for second.

On Tuesday, Fairbanks came back from a 14-10 match point deficit to beat Jonathan Alder 10-15, 15-12, 16-14. It was the Pioneers' first regular season loss since 2001. 

Aug. 23 - Elgin won a tri-match they almost missed. North Royalton surprised Lutheran West 15-11, 4-15, 15-13. Chaminade-Julienne toppled Springfield Shawnee 15-6, 17-15.

Kings won the Princeton Tri-Match. Jonathan Alder topped Bexley 15-13, 15-7, trounced Marysville 15-2, 15-6. Mansfield Madison got past Hilliard Davidson  11-15, 15-13, 15-7.
