Huesman Memorial Tournament at Hilliard Davidson High School. (Scores) Kings beat Fenwick and Springboro to win the Miami University Middletown Invitational and improve to 6-1. McNicholas is now 8-0 after beating Lakota East and Milford in a tri-match. Bishop Watterson knocked off McAuley in a match between Columbus and Cincinnati schools 25-21, 25-27, 25-27, 25-23, 15-8. Eastern Brown won the Domino's Pizza Volleyball Classic. Kettering Alter beat Carroll and Centerville in a tri-match. Seton toppled Magnificat 25-21, 25-21 to win the latter's Fall Classic. Kenston took the Walsh Jesuit Invitational with a 18-25, 25-16, 15-9 win over Copley. 9/10/04 - Roger Bacon won a big road match last night over two-time defending Division II state champion Archbishop Alter 25-22, 25-13, 25-14. This sets up the Spartans' September 23 match at McNicholas, who remained unbeaten Wednesday with a tough 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 win over Mercy, as a battle for first place in the GGCL Grey. Roger Bacon was led by Katie Veatch, Jamie Frey and Jessy Hoeh. McAuley won for the first time by knocking off undefeated Seton 23-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-18, 16-14. Meanwhile, Mt. Notre Dame topped St. Ursula 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-13. The GGCL Division I bracket looks like a real dogfight this year. St. Henry took an early giant step to their twelfth consecutive MAC title with a come from behind 21-25, 18-25. 25-15, 25-18, 15-8 victory over previously unbeaten Marion Local. Elyria beat Strongsville 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 (what are the odds of that?), led by Kelly Ruth with 15 kills and Charde' Phillips with 4 blocks.
