Week 3 Highlights - 2004 Week of Sep. 18 9/19/04 - Lakewood is now 11-0 after beating out a strong field to win the Rocky River Invitational. Two other teams, Kenston and Fairview, came into the tourney unbeaten. The Rangers knocked off Magnificat in the semifinal 30-28, 25-22 and beat Fairview in the final 25-18, 22-25, 17-15. Kenston took third with a win over Magnificat, while Elyria downed Lake Catholic for fifth. (see Plain Dealer article under Newspaper Links). Lakota West won their tri-match besting McAuley and Mercy, with Mercy beating McAuley in between. Kettering Fairmont, Chaminade-Julienne and host Sidney Lehman took turns beating each other (see Dayton Daily News article under Newspaper Links). Top ranked (Div. I) Toledo St. Ursula won the Vandalia-Butler Tri-Match, but got a big scare before beating their hosts 21-25, 25-21, 20-18. The Arrows also beat Ursuline. Mt. Notre Dame topped Bishop Watterson 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18 in a single match. 9/18/04 - West Holmes toppled two state-ranked undefeated teams today to win the Worthington Kilbourne Lady Wolves Volleyball Tournament. (Article). 9/16/04 - Although Elyria Catholic won in three over Parma Padua Franciscan Tuesday, Panther fans were on the edge of their seats the entire match - the score was 26-24, 25-22, 31-29. Last night Kings moved to 8-1 with a win over Little Miami. The Knights are currently ranked seventh on the Cincinnati Enquirer Division II-IV Poll. 9/15/04 - The ink on this week's Coaches Poll was barely dry when two No. 1 teams came crashing down (the coaches don't really use ink anymore, but you get the idea). Chaminade-Julienne, who was defeated in a tri-match last Saturday by Division III power Newark Catholic, stunned Division II leader Roger Bacon 25-23, 25-15 as Stephanie Ross recorded 11 kills and Katie Slayback had seven blocks. Meanwhile, Sidney Lehman roiled the Division IV rankings by knocking off St. Henry 23-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21. Roshelle Watercutter led the attack with 16 kills while Jessica Butt served up 10 aces. In other action, Dayton Carroll handed Talawanda their first loss 25-23, 25-22, 25-20; Mt. Notre Dame nipped Ursuline 18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 16-14; Mercy eased by Seton 25-22, 25-22, 25-21; and, Bowling Green squeezed past Maumee 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 18-25, 15-12.
