Week 5 Highlights Sep. 27 - Cincinnati St. Ursula topped Kentucky power Louisville Assumption for the second year in a row 26-24, 25-13. Highlights Elyria beat Mentor and Solon to win their Quad. The Pioneers, who last week for the first time in ten years were not ranked in the Coaches Poll, were led by Shakeela Pouncy, Alex Boros and Kate Verhoff. They should be back in the rankings this week. Fairbanks barely outscored their opponents 128-123 but won the Marysville Quad, beating Buckeye Valley, Olentangy Liberty and the host Monarchs. Minster won the Lima Shawnee Invitational for the third year in a row. Russia won their tri-match over Twin Valley South and Greenville. Frankfort Adena won the Grove City Invitational beating Grove City, Westland and Bishop Ready. Sidney Lehman took second in Convoy Crestview's tournament, losing in the final to Indiana power Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran 8-15, 15-2, 15-5. Kidron Central Christian won the Archbold Invitational. They beat West Unity Hilltop, Antwerp and host Archbold. Benjamin Logan won Bishop Hartley's tri-match beating Big Walnut and Hartley. Amherst Steele won the Twinsburg Quad, while Cincinnati Ursuline won the Wooster Quad. Kettering Alter, Roger Bacon, McAuley and Fremont Ross all won tri-matches. In single matches, Mercy surprised Oak Hills 15-5, 9-15, 15-8, and Centerburg defeated Marion Pleasant 15-13, 15-3. Sep. 25 - Frankfort Adena beat Paint Valley 15-7, 15-1. The win was their 65th straight home victory since 1995. In key Central District matches Dublin Coffman nipped Hilliard Darby 15-9, 14-16, 15-12 and Watterson knocked off DeSales 15-1, 14-16, 15-10. Fairbanks defeated Riverside 15-8, 15-6 to avenge an earlier loss to the Pirates. In Southwest Region action Cincinnati St. Ursula topped Mt. Notre Dame 15-10, 15-8 and Ursuline beat Mercy 15-12, 15-4. In a key GGCL Grey Division match, Alter nipped Roger Bacon on the road 15-12, 16-14. Alter was led by Carrie DeMange with 18 kills and 5 blocks, Ali Hausfeld with 31 assists and 4 blocks and Lindsey Woeste with 11 digs. In other action West Holmes beat Mansfield Madison 9-15, 19-17, 15-8. Sep. 24 - Tallmadge avenged an earlier loss and beat Greenburg Green 10-15, 15-12, 15-13. Sep. 23 - Maumee outlasted Bowling Green 14-16, 15-12, 19-17. Mt. Notre Dame handed Alter their first loss 15-13, 15-12. NDCL defeated Holy Name 15-6, 15-4. In other Cleveland-area volleyball matches, Walsh Jesuit upset Rocky River Magnificat, ranked #2 in Cleveland and #9 in the state (DI), 8-15, 15-13, 15-10. Sep. 22 - Walnut Hills surprised Oak Hills last night 13-15, 15-13, 15-6 and improved to 11-2. Sidney Lehman outlasted Anna 22-20, 15-10. Beaumont trounced Regina 15-4, 15-6.
