Week 6 Highlights

Oct. 4 - Archbishop Alter beat two of the top three seeds and finished fifth at the Nike Challenge. (Dayton Daily News story).

St. Henry won their tri-match over Chaminade-Julienne and Piqua.

Windham stayed unbeaten with a 11-15, 15-13, 15-10 win over Mogadore Field. Windham's Ali Roach and Field's Tracy Reschke each had 14 kills.

Oct. 3 - Nike Challenge results from Friday. Archbishop Alter defeated Lockport (IL) and Lutheran (WI). The Knights will meet Mater Dei (CA) in the first round of the Gold bracket on Saturday. Mother McAuley Nike Challenge

Oct. 2 - Dublin Coffman clinched at worst a 1st place tie in the OCC, with a victory over Westerville North 16-14, 16-14. They can clinch the title with a victory Tuesday (10/7) when they play Gahanna at home for senior's night. This would be the first OCC conference title for the Dublin Coffman Girls Volleyball team in school history.

Oct. 1 - Erin Irish served a school record 25 points in Marysville's 15-0, 15-7 win over Franklin Heights Tuesday night. On her only trip to the line in game one she served all 15 points, also a school record. In game two she stepped up with the Monarchs trailing 5-7 and served out.

Elyria's Kate Verhoff is Plain Dealer HS Player of the Week.

Sep. 30 - Villa Angela-St. Joseph, led by Meg O'Donnell's nine blocks, stunned NDCL 15-12, 5-15, 15-9. Benjamin Logan knocked off Urbana 15-5, 15-3. Cincinnati St. Ursula and Ursuline both won in two over McAuley and Mt. Notre Dame, respectively.

Team of Note - Walnut Hills is surprising some people this year. The Eagles have no seniors on their team. They also have no juniors. The team consists of seven sophomores and three freshmen. They have won twelve straight since opening season losses to Newport Central Catholic and Mercy. Their wins include McNicholas, Mason and Oak Hills. They have an October 8 showdown with Harrison in what will probably be for the Fort Ancient Valley Conference championship.
