3rd Annual Pepsi Lady Knight Invitational to
feature some of state's best

The Convoy Crestview Lady Knight Invitational is set for Saturday, September
27, 2003 starting at 9 a.m. and will feature a strong field. Convoy
Crestview, a program with close to 450 program wins and 15 consecutive winning
seasons and last season's Invitational Runner-Up, will host the tournament
that guarantees each team three matches. The Lady Knights return four
starters from their 20-4 team last year and feature a powerful hitting lineup
headed by senior All-District performer Rachel Alvarez.
Last year's Lady Knight Invitational Champion and Division III State
Runners-Up, Sidney Lehman Catholic, returns to the tournament. Coach Greg
Snipes lost a number of strong players, including Invitational MVP Amy
Edwards, but returns senior Ashley Newcomer, who made the All-Invitational
Team last year. The defending Division IV State Champions, Norwalk St. Paul,
is new to the invitational this season, as is Indiana powerhouse Fort Wayne
Concordia Lutheran. Last season, Concordia finished the season ranked number
two in Class 3A and looks to have an even stronger team this season. Coach
Bretta Hagerty from Defiance is looking for good things from her Bulldog team.
The Division 2, Western Buckeye League contender will feature Coach Hagerty's
sophomore daughter Rachael, who spent most of the summer in Utah on a national
team. The young phenom is being recruited by some of the top volleyball
programs in the country. Rachael's sister, Brie, went to Ohio State, but has
since transferred to Washington State to play in the Pac-10. Putnam County
League contender Ottoville hopes to improve, as they return to the tournament.
Rockford Parkway, a two-time Division III State Champion, will hope to
contend this season in the state's small school conference, the Midwest
Athletic Conference, but will be challenged by one of the conference's
front-runners, Fort Recovery. Fort Recovery returns tremendous power and has
a legitimate shot at winning the MAC title this season.
